MPIE Welcomes New RM Consultants Kathy Shostek and Aaron Hamming
MPIE is pleased to announce two new additions to the Risk Management team – Kathy Shostek and Aaron Hamming. Both Aaron and Kathy will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Risk Management team.
Kathy Shostek, RN, ARM, CPHRM, FASHRM, CPPS, is a Senior Risk Management/Patient Safety Consultant. Many of you likely are already familiar with Kathy as we have worked with her as a lead on our risk and safety clinical collaboratives over the past several years or from her work with ASHRM. Kathy is an industry recognized patient safety and risk management professional with over 25 years of experience. Her experience includes risk management leadership at the acute care level and corporate multispecialty physician group practice and extensive consultative experience with national medical malpractice insurance companies, hospitals, and physician practices. She has a clinical nursing and management background in emergency services, critical care, and surgery.
Kathy specializes in placing an emphasis on risk reduction techniques and innovative approaches to improve patient safety and reduce preventable harm. Significant accomplishments include leading expert teams in conducting patient safety risk assessments, establishing action goals and interventions tied to qualitative and quantitative measures for benchmarking, and developing tools for implementing best practices. Kathy is a national speaker and recognized author on topics related to patient safety and risk management.
Aaron Hamming, JD, is a Risk Management Consultant. He has more than 10 years of experience working in the risk management field. Aaron specializes in investigating medical professional liability claims using data analysis and legal expertise. Significant accomplishments include leading teams in improving products and services for insureds by using advanced analytics, legal research, and other innovative approaches. When not investigating health care liability issues, Aaron has been a frequent presenter on loss prevention and risk management topics for physicians and healthcare organizations nationwide.
Prior to focusing on medical risk management, Aaron was a founding member in a law firm providing business and litigation services. Before that he managed a CARF accredited rehabilitation program for individuals with traumatic brain injuries. Aaron is also certified as a Quality Improvement Associate with the American Society of Quality and has served as a senior examiner and team leader for the Michigan Performance Excellence Program.
